Disaster Recovery for Sydney SMEs: A 1-Page Plan
A disaster recovery plan for a small business is a short, written answer to three questions: what must come back first, how long you can be offline, and exactly who does what when systems fail. It does not need a 40-page binder — it needs clarity your team can follow on a bad morning.
The one-page skeleton
- Critical systems: email, phone/softphone, file access, line-of-business app, payments.
- RTO / RPO in plain words: "email back same day" and "lose at most one hour of files" beat vague "high availability".
- Backups: what runs, where copies live, last successful restore test date.
- People: who declares an incident, who calls the IT provider, who talks to customers.
- Comms: out-of-band phone list (not only the email that is down).
- Workarounds: hotspot, alternate laptop, paper process for taking orders for four hours.
